‘Generation Earth Minutes’ (GEM) is a free, online environmental communications programme for 18-30yr olds.

BACKGROUND
Ultimately, in the face of the climate and biodiversity emergency, there is a crisis of disconnection.
The communications industry is broken, with deep-rooted issues of being inaccessible, exclusive and non-diverse. This could greatly impact the opportunity to reconnect more people to the planet, to enable a cultural shift to drive great environmental understanding, responsibility and action.
With this, we believe that young people have the power to reconnect people through their innovation, dedication, leadership, digital culture and optimism. So, there is a significant need, as well as opportunity, to empower young people to become impactful storytellers.
Alongside this, as a youth-led team ourselves, we have a deep-rooted commitment to invest in other young communicators, to equip them with the tools and paid opportunities to sustain a career in communications.
In response to this, we’ve built and launched 'Generation Earth Minutes' (GEM), a training programme for young people across the globe to become effective environmental communicators.

PROGRAMME
GEM exists to support and mobilise a new generation of creative, environmental communicators, to help enable a cultural shift, building greater environmental understanding, responsibility, and action.
The programme provides the following:

EDUCATION & TRAINING
Develop capacity, knowledge and skills through accessible learning resources, tools, webinars and workshops, to become confident presenters, designers to filmmakers.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Opportunities to work on ‘live’ briefs and campaigns, and facilitate opportunities to network
with our clients and partners.

PROJECT MOBILISATION
At the end of the programme, we will support each cohort member with a climate comms project, ranging from a showreel to a local campaign.

FREELANCE NETWORK
Beyond the programme, the Cohort will be added to our freelance network for future work and opportunities to collaborate.

ADVISORY BOARD
Our Advisory Board of communication experts have informed the development of this GEM programme, as well as guide our global cohort of young environmental communicators.
